Name: Natasha Seeto
Division you will compete in: Bikini
Weight/Competition Weight: I don’t actually weigh myself; I tend to monitor my body balance and symmetry visually, rather than by numbers. Though this comp season, I will most probably change that approach.
City: Melbourne, Australia
Years as a vegan: 3 Years
Why you became a Vegan: I decided to transition from a vegetarian to a vegan lifestyle in 2011. I am vegan for both the amazing health benefits and also from an ethical and compassionate standpoint. I love animals. I don’t want to eat them nor do I want to use any products (primarily health/beauty) that endorse animal cruelty.

What drives you to compete: The desire to be all that I can be. For me, bodybuilding strengthens the mind and character as much as it strengthens the body. To constantly reach beyond your comfort zone expands your ability to believe in yourself and what you can achieve.
I also compete to provide another lifestyle option for others. To show that a lot of predominant believe systems are flawed and outdated… you can most definitely thrive on a plant-based diet… if you choose to.
What do you see as the biggest advantages of being a vegan athlete: Recovery! Recovery between sessions is fast. I really believe it is due to diet packed full of green goodness. Providing the body with phytonutrients and microminerals lends it a helping hand to repair tissues and to remove toxins and acidic build up from training sessions. Green Juice is my secret weapon to energy, vitality and rapid recovery!
What types of supplements if any do you use?: I don’t use a lot of supplements, I prefer to obtain everything I need for my lifestyle through my diet. The only supplements I currently take are a vegan protein powder, (I haven’t settled on a favourite brand or blend as yet), chlorella, spirulina, chlorophyll and occasionally a greens powder.
How would you describe your diet while preparing for a competition: My comp prep diet is fairly similar to my regular diet, only difference being a tighter control on macronutrients when prepping. Also, sugar is cut from my diet, which means no delicious vegan cupcakes and raw desserts that I am terribly fond of.
Favorite food in your prep diet: ANY! During comp prep, my metabolism is cranking, so I’m happy to munch on any vegan food! If I had to choose though, I really enjoy seasonings and spices because they really add flavour and excitement to my comp prep diet.
How would you describe your training for a competition?: My training maintains the same intensity whether I am prepping for a comp or not. Weight lifting is a lifestyle for me – they are no off-seasons. The only difference during competition ‘season’ is the addition of more HIIT to assist in leaning down.
Favorite exercises: My favourite exercises change depending on the areas I am working on to balance body symmetry. At the moment I’m focusing on glutes, hamstrings, quads, shoulders and back so I’m loving hip thrusters, dead lifts (all kinds), any shoulder exercises (especially military press and lateral raises) and wide grip lat pull downs and pull-ups.
How many hours a week do you spend training?: I train 7-10 hours per week, which includes non-weightlifting activities (yoga, walking, dancing)
Today I am most proud of: The person I am… every experience in life shapes us. How we choose to response to life is completely under our own control. Life really is a journey and not a destination. There are opportunities for growth in every situation. I am most proud of my ability to take responsibility for my actions, no matter what. I know I have given my best at every juncture in my life and whether the roads I chose lead me down hill or up hill, I walk forward with my chest proud and heart open.
