Division you will compete in: CrossFit
Age: 29
Height: 5’’3
Weight/Competition Weight: 128lbs
City: Singapore
Years as a vegan: 6 years
Why you became a Vegan: I first became vegan after learning about the cruelty behind animal agriculture through the film Earthlings.. My dog Chocolate was just beside me and looking at him I decided that if I didn’t want that happening to him I shouldn’t be supporting an industry that does that to other animals. Subsequently I learned about the health and environmental impacts. There is simply no valid reasons for me to eat animals anymore.
What drives you to compete: Other than the desire to challenge myself physically and mentally, I hope that competing as a vegan would show others that you can live a compassionate lifestyle without compromising athleticism.
What do you see as the biggest advantages of being a vegan athlete: Faster recovery between trainings. Having a sense of purpose greater than oneself.
What types of supplements if any do you use?: BCAAs, plant-based protein powders, B12.
How would you describe your diet while preparing for a competition: My diet doesn’t differ much other than eating slightly more to accommodate the increased training volume and intensity.
Favorite food in your prep diet: Protein shake, brown rice, sweet potato!
How would you describe your training for a competition: Increase volume and intensity and working with a coach to address areas that I’m lacking.
Favorite exercises: It’s a love-hate relationship with wall balls.
How many hours a week do you spend training? About 15 hours.
Today I am most proud of: Not giving up in times of adversity.
