Why you became a vegan: I became a vegan after learning about the cruelty in the food industry. I believe that creation should be treated with respect and care. We should not exploit animals, nature, or human beings for our convenience or pleasure, but instead live with awareness of the impact of our actions.

History competing: I started CF in August of 2013, and I’ve competed in four Scaled team CF competitions, and 1 RX individual CF competition (Wodapalooza at the Naturally Fit Games 2014). I have also competed in a figure competition (INBA World Cup in Hollywood, 2013)

What drives you to compete: Competing makes me better. It shows me that there is always room for improvement and learning more skills. I love competing as a vegan because I can show other athletes that you don’t have to eat animals in order to be a good athlete. As a vegan I am competing for a cause bigger than myself. I feel like I am a part of promoting a cruelty free, mindful lifestyle.

What do you see as the biggest advantages of being a vegan athlete: Recovery. In my experience I am sore less often than a lot of non-vegan CF athletes, and I am able to recover from it faster. And I think it’s cheaper! I don’t have to buy expensive grassfed meat and organic milk! Sweet potatoes don’t cost a lot.

What types of supplements if any do you use?: I’ve used a variety of vegan protein powders. Right now I am using Sunwarrior and Nutiva Hemp. I also take a B-12 complex.

How would you describe your diet while preparing for a competition: I eat a lot of salads and vegetable soups, and potatoes and squashes. I eat some grains like oatmeal and quinoa. I make protein smoothies a lot too, with fruits and greens.

Favorite food in your prep diet: Kale orange ginger smoothie with vanilla protein.

How would you describe your training for a competition: I do a CF wod about 5 days a week, and work on Olympic lifting or strength about 5 days a week. I run a couple times a week, sprints & a longer distance run. Also a lot of yoga.

Favorite exercises: The snatch & box jumps

Strongest skills: running, box jumps, handstand pushups

How many hours a week do you spend training?: I feel like I live at the gym and yoga studio. I’m not sure!

Today I am most proud of: Right now I’m proud of making my hobbies into my career as a yoga instructor and CF coach. I get to do what I love every day and help other people become healthy. And it gives me the chance to share about the benefits & importance of veganism to my clients and teammates.
