Division you will compete in: CF
City: Oviedo, FL
Years as a vegan: 1
Why you became a vegan: Compassion for animals, realizing the impact that animal agriculture has on our environment, and breaking the mindset that meat is essential for keeping the body healthy.
History competing: I have competed in several local (Orlando, FL area) competitions over the last couple years, both team and individual, including Infidel Throwdown, Zombie WODS, War on Wall Street, and Beast Mode Battle.
What drives you to compete: I am competitive by nature, and the drive is fueled even more so now with such a passion and purpose behind it, wanting to bring awareness and be living proof that you can be an athlete and make compassionate choices. I also strive to set a good example for my son, to stand up for the things that I believes in, even if it is the more difficult path, just as my parents taught me.
What do you see as the biggest advantages of being a vegan athlete: Physically, my recovery time is faster. Mentally, I feel clearer and more focused….and my heart is happy.
What types of supplements if any do you use?: I alternate between hemp protein powder and Plant Head Protein.
How would you describe your diet while preparing for a competition: It does not vary much from my usual diet, maybe increase in calories and being stricter about an eating schedule.
Favorite food in your prep diet: Sweet Potato!
How would you describe your training for a competition: Increase in volume and intensity.
Favorite exercises: Cleans & Snatches
How many hours a week do you spend training?: In general, I go to CF five times a week for one hour. When training for a competition, I will spend longer amounts of time training, and incorporate two-a-days.
Today I am most proud of: Feeling as though I have found a purpose. Being on this journey, and becoming more involved with something that is a true passion of mine, and to be able to share that with others….maybe even make a difference in the world.
