•Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics
Their Lip Tar is like nothing I’ve experienced in the past. Yes, it’s THAT good. This stuff stays on, doesn’t feel tacky, and is 100% cruelty-free and vegan! If you’re in the NYC area they have a store front in the lower east side. The only down side to the Lip Tar: You should buy the clear base because the colors can bleed a little.
Cost: $18
Here’s a link to check them out: http://occmakeup.com/collections/lips-1
You can also buy at Sephora.com

Lights, Camera, Lashes–NOT the waterproof kind–is amazing. This company is ‘cruelty-free’ in that they don’s test on animals, but you need to check lip colors, eye liners, etc for beeswax. This is my favorite mascara so far, but I’m still testing others out just because there are so many options out there!

I have the whitest eyebrows on the planet, I swear. So, if I want to have brows I have to dye and/or fill them in. I use Tarte’s brow mousse, because it rocks! http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-Amazonian-clay-waterproof-brow-mousse
Whatever you do, don’t go into Sephora and let an employee tell you everything there is cruelty-free. It’s not. And, even if they don’t test on animals, a lot of those make-up brands have animal bi-products in them.

Sephora Tips:
Some Benefit products are vegan too, but just check the ingredients!
Note: Urban Decay got bought out. So, while they don’t directly participate in animal testing, their parent company does. Please, just don’t, it’s not worth the risk. 🙁

•Ooh La La Mineral Cosmetics
I have yet to find a foundation that isn’t too thick, but that offers some sort of coverage without being cakey, too dewey or streaky. So, when I do want full coverage foundation, I will use this powder. It isn’t drying, doesn’t irritate my skin, and I know first hand that there is NO animal testing. The eye shadows are great too! I LOVE that all of the names are super heroes too!! (NERD ALERT!)

•Jack Black
Face Buff Energizing Scrub is designed for men, which means absolutely nothing to me. My skin gets funky when I work out hard and this scrub is the only thing that seems to work to clear it up. I use it 3-4x’s a week and I’m a happy camper. Thanks to Sephora’s free samples, I tried this for the first time years ago, and have been addicted since. The company is cruelty-free http://www.getjackblack.com/askjack.aspx , but not all of their products are vegan, so check labels if you venture out beyond this stuff.

• Eminence
Stone Crop gel wash is THE bombdotcomdotcom. There is nothing that compares to this stuff. The company is fully cruelty-free, paraben free, and completely animal-product free! Down side: pretty spendy, and if I use it every day my skin gets too dry–I have princess skin. It only like scrubs or deep washes every couple of days, just water the rest!
Also, please note, you really truly only need a pea sized amount… honest!!
http://us.eminenceorganics.com/Stone-Crop-Gel-Wash_p_58.html I have also seen their products on amazon.com, so don’t get too scared! Shop around! http://www.amazon.com/Eminence-Organic-Skincare-Stone-Crop/dp/B000KQ1E5Y

•Meow Meow Tweet
Lavender Deodorant and grapefruit clove lip balm. Need I say more?
This company is based out of Brooklyn, and not only do they use minimal ingredients per product, they are entirely, 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and awesome. I have the pleasure of knowing Tara personally, and she is rad. I SWEAR by their deodorant. It’s all I use now. If you’re local to NYC you can get it at Sustainable NYC in East Village, but it’s also here: http://meowmeowtweet.myshopify.com/products/tea-tree-deodorant-cream-1 Trust me, you need it. Only down side: I want to rub it on as perfume, but that would be weird!!

Their wax pots of perfume are my new favorite thing because I can take them anywhere. Hint: they are PERFECT after you work out, instead of lugging around liquid bottles! AND, they are great for midday refreshing 🙂 http://www.pacificaperfume.com/
Also, Pacifica makes these really cool lip balms that are tinted. I learned of these in Austin, TX this past summer when the Plant Built team was at Whole Foods and Dani Taylor (of veganproteins.com) told me she used them. I’ve been hooked ever since! I love the light pink Color Quench, I don’t know the name of the specific color I have, but you should check those out too! http://www.pacificaperfume.com/productdisplay/color-quench-jumbo-lip-tint-guava-berry Keep in mind these are available at Whole Foods, and Sustainable NYC as well 🙂

Okay, I have to be honest. I really don’t like spending time on my hair, especially washing it. So, when I found this stuff I was stoked because I don’t even have to use conditioner every time. I love that. So many great qualities about this particular product, but the top awesome things are: cruelty-free, vegan, and pretty inexpensive considering how long it lasts me–granted I have short hair. I only condition once or twice a week, depending on the weather.

I swear by hair oil. I don’t know what else to tell you about that…but, this stuff rocks. http://www.amazon.com/Agadir-Argan-Oil-Hair-Treatment/dp/B003VV7E7M/ref=sr_1_17?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1390267354&sr=1-17 A little goes a very long way, so use less than you think you need, because it will probably still be too much. Too much oil = a wasted hair washing session = bad news!!

This isn’t my favorite floss, I’ve gotta be honest, but it’s the easiest one to find around and it’s certified vegan. The box lasts a long time too! Down Side: if your teeth are tight together it can shred a little, just pull quickly and firmly. http://www.drugstore.com/eco-dent-vegan-floss-premium-dental-floss-cinnamon/qxp299493

THIS floss rocks, but the vegan mint one is darn near impossible to find. I was lucky enough to track it at Sustainable NYC– http://www.sustainable-nyc.com/Health-Body_c_30.html (they also have the Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant & lip balm, as well as the Pacifica wax pot perfumes!). It doesn’t shred, and the little cutter thing is sharp so it actually cuts the floss. (Winning)
I LOVE THIS STUFF!! If you can handle cranberry pre brushing, or happen to track down the mint in your area or online, you should definitely try it out! http://store.veganessentials.com/vegan-dental-floss-by-radius-p3252.aspx

•Preserve Toothbrushes
To me, it is not only important to be cruelty free to the furry, swimming, crawlers, and air born friends, it is also our right and responsibility to be kind to our earth. Which is why these toothbrushes continue to be my #1 choice. http://www.sutmundo.com/top-5-eco-toothbrushes/
They are made of recycled #5 plastics, and can be recycled when it’s time to get a new one. The soft bristles are gentle on your enamel, but get at the plaque.

•Tom’s Toothpaste
The main reason why I continue to go for Tom’s is because there isn’t carrageenen in it. I know a lot of foods have it and I just don’t think it’s necessary. I try to avoid it in ways I can. Tom’s is still cruelty free, and these are vegan as well. I’m on the search for a better toothpaste, but for now…. http://www.tomsofmaine.com/product-details/sensitive-toothpaste

Make your own, if you can. http://mymerrymessylife.com/2013/02/homemade-all-natural-peppermint-mouthwash.html I’ve used Tom’s and Jason’s and all the others, and I don’t think they are minty enough. I don’t use mouthwash all of the time, but when I do, I want a dangerously minty mouth….Which is why, if you make your own, you can have it as minty as you please 🙂
And, it’s more cost effective, AND you can store in glass. No down sides to that!!

As any one who goes to the gym knows, every single person out there is fascinated that you are alive, let alone have muscles and don’t eat animals, or consume whey protein, or casein….And, what’s most baffling, that you don’t eat fish or chicken–because apparently they’re not living beings?.. Anyway, here is an easy go to list for my favorites 😉

•SunWarrior- raw, vegan, cruelty-free, & easily assimilated, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with this company one-on-one and they are absolutely awesome. Their protein is awesome–I like the brown rice formula in chocolate!

•Plant Fusion- Another company I have been working with, they are so so so rad. I’ll have a video up shortly on their product, and you can see my favorite way to get my protein on daily. I use the chocolate protein and love the Caramel chocolate Phood as well 🙂

•Vega- As a www.veganbodybuilding.com sponsored athlete, I am so fortunate to get Vega as part of my sponsorship. I have used most of Vega’s products, but swear by their Sport Protein (chocolate–shocker!) and their post-workout recovery (tropical flavor).

•Health Force
Elite Green Mesquite. There is so much energy in this protein. 17g’s per serving, which is less than the proteins listed above, but I swear I feel like a new woman when I use this stuff before the gym! My favorite way to prep is with one or two whole dates, water, and ice and blend. It’s very green 😉 But, it’s so amazing, you’ll get over the tint your teeth are left with!

You can buy these here:

•Clean Machine
If you’re a guy you can buy their Testosterone Booster now http://www.veganproteins.com/proteins-more-shop/cell-block80-testosterone-booster-by-cleanmachine/ if you’re like me, you’ll want to wait for their Estrogen Blocker. I’m a guinea pig for this right now–as the newest team member and first female–and so far so good! I’ll keep you posted! 🙂

Post-Workout Recovery in tropical flavor. I love this stuff with a scoop of vanilla protein = deliciousness x’s 1,000,000.

http://www.amazon.com/Foods-L-Glutamine-Pure-Powder-1-Pound/dp/B0013OXEKK right after a workout and another teaspoon 30 min later, and you won’t be as sore. I promise. Thanks (again) to Dani Taylor for this suggestion, it really works.

I don’t buy into the hype that all supplements are good for you, nor do I believe they are all bad for you either….So, I take BCAA’s. These are the ones I take: http://www.amazon.com/Dymatize-Nutrition-Complex-Powder-Ounce/product-reviews/B0014NUXXQ and/or http://www.amazon.com/Inner-Armour-BCAA-Peak/dp/B008CTYAM0 (whichever is more cost effective is how I decide 😉
When do I take these?
During my workout, and after my workout.
When you’re in the gym lifting heavy 5-6 days a week, your body is going to get tired. If you give it what it needs to recover, you will be able to go harder longer, heal faster, and see gains/improvements more quickly.
Don’t you think you get enough nutrients from your vegan lifestyle?
Yes. However, I also swear by a few supps….
Have I convinced you yet? 😉 Good.
Now, here’s the deal, I don’t use these if I’m not working out for a show. So, essentially, I ‘cycle’ them. Everyone is different, but I know the majority of my lifting friends and I would agree that BCAA’s are super cool for combatting DOMS.

The single most important thing to look for when buying BCAA’s, make sure they are plant derived and NOT animal based!!! The only way I know to be sure, 100% certain, is to look for the Ajipure certification. Ajipure is vegan, plant-based, cruelty-free: http://www.ajiaminoscience.com/products/branded_products/ajipure/for-manufacturers/ajipureaminoacids.aspx

Remember: There are so many options out there, it only takes a few seconds to google things. It is better to spend those moments researching, than to buy something blindly and possibly contribute to animal cruelty, or environmental damages!!
